Martin's Lake House

Martin's home is a new addition to Burkeen Properties. Though we do not own this property we happily help run and manage it. Located half a mile from the lake, this home may not be lakefront but it is still close enough to carpool or walk down to during your stay.

Here's what Martin has to say about his home!:

Spacious 3 Bedroom Ranch plus Dormitory Style basement with laundry and half bath. 1 mile from Jonathon Creek Bridge with numerous public boat ramps and 2 marinas with boat slip rentals. 3 miles from Edgar Ferry Bridge and Land Between the Lakes . Country living yet close to restaurants, stores, gas stations and other attractions. Great for family get away or hunting/ fishing trip. Plenty of beds and parking for a large group with room for boats and trailers. Ample outdoor electric outlets.

The space

While I’m a new host, I’ve asked Jonathan Burkeen, owner of Burkeen Properties to help me host and make your experience a great one. Jonathan and his wife owns numerous properties in the area and they have a lot of experience. On the first floor, the house has 2 bedrooms, each with a queen bed and 1 bedroom with 2 twin beds. There’s 2 full baths and 1 half bath. In the basement there are 2 twin beds and 1 twin bunk bed. New luxury plank vinyl flooring was just installed in June in the living room hallway and 2 bedrooms. There’s a fully stocked kitchen. Spacious yard and parking. Carport. Propane grill. Deck overlooking the woods where you will see deer and turkey.
If you want to know more here it is…….
The original owners of this house were named Sirls (the name of our road) . They owned a tremendous amount of land. In the area. They built the house themselves in 1950 and added on including the basement in 1970. You will see the original part of the house with hardwood floors and hand made kitchen cabinets. Character you can’t buy today. Imagine a family of 3 living in such a small space. After they passed, the house was vacant and deteriorated and was later sold but the wife did not like country living and they moved. It sat vacant again. We bought it in 2011 and it was uninhabitable. There was no water, no central HVAC, broken windows, hideous colors, broken tile, paint overspray and electrical concerns everywhere. I installed a new 200 amp service and replaced every foot of wire, every fixture, every switch, every outlet. I spent my first year in the attic. I slept in a bedroom with an indoor kerosene heater and blow up mattress. I went to a local gym to take a shower and carried 5 gallon buckets of water from the gas station for the toilet. Until I retired in 2023, I spent every weekend here improving it except for spring fishing. With your help, I’ll continue to make improvements. Next big project is to replace all windows and update the last bathroom. Sorry, for the long note …you likely know more than you needed or wanted.

Guest access

The guests will have access to the entire house/yard except the barn behind the house, a few closets inside the house and an two areas that have been gated off in the basement for personal use/items. We ask that guests respect these areas.
